DOG AND NEWS UPDATES
Met up with a recent new owner and family members in PANTHERS RAVEN at the races last Sunday. Pictured after Raven had run her race the family then went to meet up with Jimmy who as normal had a very vocal reception in store ! Raven has won 2 x A2 races since Alan joined and is presently running A1 races. It really is a great opportunity for all the family to be involved in a racing greyhound at a cost that is not prohibitive. A lot of enjoyment can be obtained and as well as watching your dog run either on track or via the many tv / computer / bookie outlets, Yvonne also welcomes owners to come to the kennels and walk the dogs - there are as many as you would wish to walk as well as your own. Most if not all enjoy the fuss and attention. If you haven't been involved previous or would like to take up a share with a Panther dog with Yvonne, there are still a couple of shares available in PANTHERS RAVEN. Details can be seen on the dog's own website page but the cost starts at only £139 ALL IN for the entire career of RAVEN and includes all registrations, training racing costs etc. etc. Absolutely nothing more to pay and it also includes any costs to rehome Raven at the end of her racing career. If you are interested in a share in Raven or would be interested in a new dog to join the kennel in the near future please just get in touch with Anne on 07775 743 885.
Called at the kennels last week with Jimmy and it's something he always enjoys. Great to see how he interacts with all staff and other kennel dogs.
Has been awaiting a place in the rehoming scheme for a long time now and it would be nice for her to get her own sofa in a loving environment soon. She is a dog who loves life and is physically fit and will give someone / a family lots of love and dedication. She keeps getting leapfrogged as many people would rather rehome a coloured dog as opposed to a black one and two brindles got ahead of her last week. Hopefully her place comes up soon. In the meantime she is still very happy at the kennels, loves meeting up with Jimmy and shares her kennel with another racer.
Another who is awaiting a sofa to call his own. Storm never really took to racing and the penny only seemed to drop when the race was over. He is only 2 years of age and without problem. He is a big dog and a very handsome one as you can see from pics on his own web page. The typical gentle giant who wouldn't harm a fly. Unfortunately not quite sure what to make of Jimmy when the latter goes off in one of his vocal play modes. Like Ana, I'm hoping he will rehome in the not too distant future. Loves nothing more than a lot of fuss and attention - and preferably a big sofa !
Didn't have time to walk her out last week but she has done a fast trial and will be on the card in the next week.
Didn't have time to bring Raven out neither but both went crazy when visiting them in their kennel. They have been inseparable since being born and presently share the same kennel at Yvonne's. Raven is due to run again on Sunday in another A1 event.
Runs tonight but only over 4 bends as opposed to the 6 which is her preferred trip. It is a handicap and she goes off scratch giving 15m to another of Yvonne's dogs out of trap 1. She is a very consistent bitch who just isn't being given a fair crack of the whip Although winning 9 from 40 at Sunderland she is trying her hardest but has been set too much to do to catch other dogs out at the front in the handicaps. She is a strong stayer and runs very consistent but no wins in her last 9 races tells its own story. Just needs a bit of a let up by the grader. She is over 4 bends tonight as she wasn't entered for the 6 bender on Wed and it would mean her being off track about 3 weeks and consequently losing fitness and then expected to take on dogs over 6 bends, probably off scratch, when others had the benefit of a least one race and in most cases 2 races in the same time scale. Can only see how she does over the shorter trip tonight. She is a big friend of Jimmy's and both have identical instincts when out on a walk. Both are on the 'watch' for any other breed dogs down the lane or any movements in the undergrowth. Brilliant to watch them together and it reminds me of when Jimmy used to walk out with Rosie (a lurcher at the rescue centre where we go) who was on looks a very big staffie but with all the greyhound habits.
Danni came out of her last race well. She had been off track for 6 months and then popped up and won at 10/1 on New Year's Day. A brilliant start to the New Year. Danni and Jimmy get along ok but have a healthy respect for one another. Both will give as good as they get ! Neither had any issues last week when out walking but it only needs one of them to go into 'play mode' before the fireworks start. Danni will be running again next week. Danni is a very strong looking bitch but has a very soft velvety coat much like Bluey's.
Don't forget if you would be interested in a share in a greyhound please do take a look on the dog pages to see what is available. Also, as we are always looking for new pups, you are welcome to put your name forward to be sent details of any new dogs that crop up - WITHOUT ANY OBLIGATION AT ALL. Touchwood all runners come back safe and sound foremost and as winners secondary.
